Sidney Nolan: Rough, Search, Desert
Ricky Swallow: Lifeless, Carve, Wood
Patricia Piccinini: Organic, Growing, Creature
Ricky Swallow Materials:
Swallow choses to use a variety of materials when creating his pieces, from wood, to paint and canvas, and even bronze. For the sculpture shown above he has chosen to carve this scene out of wood, specifically Maple. It has been painstakingly carved from what looks like a resonably large piece of wood, although i do not doubt that it could be carved from multiple blocks of wood, i cannot find a diffinative answer for this. My opinion is that he has joined smaller pieces together as i can see slight join lines in the piece. He has chosen to leave this piece like many of his others unpainted thus revealing to the audience it is actually made from wood.
Patricia Piccinini Materials:
Patricia makes many different pieces, including sculptures, paintings (often featured on objects), Photography and digital art. The piece seen above is composed of Silicon, Acrylic, Human Hair, Leather, and Timber. I am not entirely sure how it is constructed but my guess would be that she has formed a timber frame which she has then sculpted a silicon form around. This would then be covered in leather to give the impression of skin, and then painted to the desired colours, with the human hair being the finishing touches on the head.
